The I-9 form, which is used to ensure candidates are eligible to work in the United States, requires someone to verify that the candidate’s ID is valid. We typically request that the library complete this step on the candidate's first day on the job. As the I-9 verifier, you will be given temporary and limited access to our online onboarding system for the exclusive purpose of verifying the candidate being placed. You would simply need to scan and upload an image of the candidate's IDs and complete the second portion of the I-9 form.

Please note I-9 verifiers do not assume any responsibility on behalf of your organization. Instead, you are acting as a temporary designated "agent" of the Massachusetts Library System (parent organization of BiblioTemps). Once you complete the online I-9 form, you have no further obligations as a BiblioTemps I-9 verifier.
